The Paths of Paquimé I evokes the ancient routes that crossed the desert, connecting communities, exchanges, and knowledge across the vast territory of northern Mexico. Inspired by the ceramic tradition of Mata Ortiz and the cultural heritage of Paquimé, this piece transforms clay into a symbolic cartography where each line seems to point to a journey, a memory, or an encounter.

Its geometric patterns evoke paths marked by time, footprints in the sand, and journeys that remain alive in the collective imagination. The composition conveys a sense of serene movement, as if history continues to unfold through the earth, the fire, and the hands that keep this ancestral tradition alive.

  • Jesús Octavio Silveira (Mata Ortiz, 1977) learned the craft of pottery from his mother and father, quickly standing out for his dedication, high quality, and the integration of the Quezada and Porvenir styles in his pieces. He has been recognized on numerous occasions in the Annual Ceramic Contest in Mata Ortiz, standing out in the “Award of Excellence” category in 2019. Through the Casa de las Artesanías, he was commissioned by the Government of the State of Chihuahua to produce a ceramic piece for Pope Francis during his visit to Mexico in 2016, a work he made in collaboration with Griselda Ortiz Martínez.
