In this ceramic piece from Mata Ortiz, the Day of the Dead is represented at night, one of the most important traditions in Mexico, where our ancestors are honored. In this case, the first potters are honored, who laid the foundation for the following generations in Chihuahua.

Juan Mata Ortiz is a town in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, located about 35 kilometers southwest of Casas Grandes, near the ruins of Paquimé and Colonia Juárez. It is famous for the pottery that is produced in it.

One of the techniques they use is total reduction and smoked, a low-temperature technique, or else that of graphite, which they are using in two ways: as the majority of a slip and applied as a dry powder on already burnished pieces. In both cases, they leave the pieces to dry and then burnish them again.

When you touch a finished pot, you can feel the fingers of the artist who shaped it inside.
