In the Wixárika worldview, Te'akata is one of the founding sites of the spiritual universe: the place where, according to tradition, hummingbirds carried burning embers from Haramara (the sea) to ignite the first fire. That original flame was not only a source of heat, but also the activation point of ceremonial time, symbolic language, and the sacred heart of the world.

This circular work, 1.60 meters in diameter, titled Teacata, was created by the visionary Wixárika artist Luis de la Cruz López, from the Tatei Kié community (San Andrés Cohamiata, Jalisco), under the artistic commission of Arte Marakame. The color scheme was specifically developed by Marakame's curatorial direction, with a symbolic intention: to begin from the dark center—like deep embers—and expand toward the edges with increasingly luminous tones, evoking the radiance of a newly lit fire.

The concentric structure of the piece is reminiscent of a nierika (vision portal): a mandala that not only represents, but activates. The rhythmic accumulation of geometric figures—stars, petals, spirals—forms a network that vibrates with mathematical precision charged with ritual energy. The use of Czechoslovakian crystal beads provides a luminous quality that changes with the light, intensifying the sensation of living fire.

More than a decorative work, Te'akata is a visual offering that articulates symbols, oral history, and visionary experience. It reminds us that fire is not born solely from matter, but from ceremonial acts, from song, from living myth. This work is a point of convergence between contemporary Indigenous art and the spiritual depth of one of the oldest and most resilient cultures in Mesoamerica.
