  • This work by Taro Tokuyama explores identity and introspection through a fusion of painting and sculpture suspended in a glass frame. The portrait, made from layers of oil-painted paper, resembles the growth rings of a tree, symbolizing the passage of time and the accumulation of experiences in a person’s life. From one angle, the piece reveals a concentric abstraction, while from another vantage point, a hyperrealistic portrait of the artist himself emerges, reflecting the concept of duality and the changing perception of the self.

The mirror incorporated into the piece allows the viewer to interact with the work, projecting his or her own reflection and establishing a dialogue between the image of the artist and that of the observer. This combination of elements and materials creates a unique piece within contemporary art, where time, identity and memory converge in an immersive visual experience.
