    In this piece, the night becomes the stage and memory becomes movement. Skeletal figures advance in a ritual choreography, enveloped by the moon, nocturnal birds, and funerary symbols that mark the eternal passage between worlds.

    The engraving, executed with exceptional meticulousness, constructs a continuous narrative that unfolds across the curved surface of the ceramic like a story without beginning or end. Each line vibrates with intention, revealing the artisan's touch and absolute mastery of the stroke, achieving a visual depth that captivates the eye and slowly guides it through every detail.

    Inspired by the Mexican worldview of the Day of the Dead, this work does not allude to mourning, but to the A celebration of existence beyond time, where death is presence, dance, song, and permanence. The contrast between the dark base and the delicate light engravings creates a dramatic, solemn, and profoundly poetic atmosphere.

  • Héctor Javier Martínez (Mata Ortiz, 1984) burst onto the Mata Ortiz pottery scene in 2008, with the characteristic style that distinguishes him to this day: the motifs of the night and day of the dead, in a model very Mexican and personal graphic. This was the result of a conversation he had with the well-known American collector Steve Rose. Héctor has been winner of the National Ceramic Award in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco in 2014, and has received important recognitions in the Annual Ceramic Competition in Mata Ortiz. He continues his work by collaborating with his partner Gabriela Pérez, with whom he shares credits in the signing of his pieces.
