Nierika Tatewari Yuawi - He who walks carrying the fire of the grandfather

Commissioned by Arte Marakame and created by Wixaritari artists Braulio and Hilda de la Cruz, this life-size sculpture embodies one of the deepest symbols of the Wixárika worldview.

The puma is conceived as the voice of fire: an entity that mediates between the sacred fire and the mara'akame, articulating a spiritual language that transcends the visible. It does not represent fire, but speaks from within it.

The artwork is covered with hundreds of thousands of Czech glass beads, applied manually one by one using a specialized epoxy adhesive. This process creates a surface that functions simultaneously as skin, ritual map, and thought structure.

Suspended in space, the piece is presented in a state of transition, affirming its liminal nature: a body that exists between dimensions.

Unique in its chromatic composition and execution, this work is situated at the intersection between ceremonial practice and contemporary art.
