“When I created this work, I wanted to represent the strength and abundance of corn, because for us Wixaritari people, corn is origin, food, and spirit. I chose the sacred colors of corn: red, pink, yellow, and blue, accompanied by green, which represents the leaves and the life of the plant that is born from our Mother Earth.

From the center, the energy expands like corn when it blossoms and bears its fruit. Each symbol and each tiny bead placed on this piece represents the continuity of our ceremonies, our memory, and our relationship with Father Sun. As a marakame and custodian of the ceremonial gourd at the Tseriekame Ceremonial Center, I created this work to share the teaching that all life is born from the seed, and that in each color of corn resides a part of the balance and wisdom of our people.

This 60-centimeter diameter work, entirely handmade in micro-beads by the master Marcelo Bautista, originally from Cohamiata, Sierra Madre Occidental of Mexico, constitutes a contemporary expression of the Wixárika visionary art and was made especially for commission by Arte Marakame.
