This nierika is born from a spiritual vision and represents our connection with Wirikuta, one of the sacred places of the Wixárika people.

The color blue represents the Blue Deer, a sacred being that guides us on our spiritual path. The symbols that appear in the artwork represent the guardians of Wirikuta and the spiritual forces that inhabit and protect this place.

We also call hikuri, our sacred peyote, Tuútu Yuyuawi, the blue flowers of the desert. For us, hikuri is not just a plant: it is a sacred being that allows us to receive knowledge, find our path, and communicate with our ancestors and deities.

In this nierika I wanted to capture a vision in which the hikuri, the Blue Deer and the guardians of Wirikuta meet and are part of the same spiritual universe.

Each symbol and each color has a meaning within our culture and expresses a part of the knowledge that we have received and preserved as a Wixárika people.
